3.9.2 Upgrade Sewerage in Minginui - Project Details:Description: Currently all homes are serviced using septic tanks of 1948 vintage. There outfalls leach into the small streambed that passes through the village and on to our Whirinaki River. Also, since the current water supply reticulation system has been in place since 1948, pipes are rusted and leaking with a subsequent health risk of cross pollution. After many submissions to government, the establishment of an officials group in Wellington tasked to look at the issues of Minginui and a report on the village, this issue remains unresolved as of April 2007 We have started doing some research on this ourselves and have made some contacts with people able to advise us on environmental friendly solutions that are aligned with tangata whenua values and minimise risks to our waterways and health.
