6.7.1 Develop Community Centre - Project Details:

Description:

This project is to develop a Community Centre which will become the hub of our village. We are thankful for the help that the UNITEC architecture student team gave us in developing our concept plan and preparing some designs.

We want to provide;

  • A village administration building including Council and Whanau Support Offices.
  • Computer facilities with internet acess for community courses and as a homework centre.
  • A library facility with information
  • A takeaway cafe and small shop to serve both local people and tourists
  • A gallery to display local arts and crafts.
  • an outdoor recreation area attractively planted

We also have obtained funding to develop a children's playground in this area. This will include planting and landscaping

The second phase will involve renovation of our old hall with extensions to include a gymnasium and other activities including an open air stage. Our UNITEC friends helped us develop quite a few concepts for this.

Outcomes expected:

  • A safe place for our children and community to learn, work and play
  • A centre where visitors can find information and services.

Start Date: Nov 2004
Expected Completion:

Budget:

We estimate that we will need a budget of $ 50,000 to get this substantially underway but as yet are not sure how we will raise this
