Our Program Sensing (Issues Register):

This will be the place we register any opportunities or issues that come up that require perhaps a new project to be established or other action. This is at the program level and an action may be to start a new project which will then have its own detailed issues register and progress log to highlight the actions we are taking to resolve them.

18/1/03 Defoilient spray used in cleared pine forests adjacent to Whirinaki Forest. Also observed helicopters spraying something over fully grown forests and a Kaumatua's home?? Students to call forestry companies and ask them to visit and explain to class what is being used, why and alternatives.. st
Jan 04 It is understood that a govt report was produced that identified toxic outfall from old Minginui mill / timber treatment?? plant Students to ask for a copy of the report under the Information Disclosure Act st
17/01/04 The Village Rubbish Dump and procedures are not environmentally appropriate (after visiting Raglan) Cleanup started but recycling etc to be established.
21/03/04 Earl working in bush so needs more local volunteer support to get started and confirm project funding. More support from gained from local team members required to help submit budgets etc.
Priorities at Kura on merge, extension and rebuilding, plus Runanga and Iwi focused on both Waitangi hearings and negotiations. Much of the work on current projects has been assumed locally by Andy Blick Minginui Council and the Whanau Support Team.
3/10/04 Frustration in getting funding for our project budgets and roadmaps are causing individuals to spend their own and cofunder money to meet project commitments and this is adversely effecting moral.

Follow up with Enterprise and Skills development fund. Meeting called to review progress to date and consider whole project on 20 Dec 2004. Cleared at meeting 27 Jan 2005

10/12/04 Community meeting with authorities to consder toxin hazard legacy in valley. OSH Officer has declared forest compound site out of bounds Nursery and Whirinaki Centre are temporarily on hold pending testing and a hazard report. Concern that these positive future projects are stopped by historical issues. May need dispensation to continue renovation work if safe, or temp nursery to get summer seed germination started.
