03/02/04 Follow up with Earl, Chris and others confirmed Kaitiakitanga must start from within the community ( the biggest risk) and root itself around its kaupapa, from which enterprise activities will naturally grow. ER
09/03/04 Andree Mathieu presented at ICANZ Sustainability Group - weaving in Tipu Ake and Kaitiakitanga AM
19/03/04 Tipu Ake / Kaitiakitanga retreat got external support network and more ideas around the project. Many

James Carlson nominated to be the Interim Coordinator to mobilise local effort to select priority projects, finalise the funding contract ready for the quarter starting July 2004 and be the interface with our funding partners. 24/06/04 Thanks to Shirley Pike and Hinurewa Te Hau, for meeting with Earl Rewi, Pene Ohlsen, Jimmy Goldsmith, Timoti Mc Mannus, Chris Eketone and Andy Blick to finalise the program for the next quarter. With the merge now well underway, the Kura to again take up the role of Contract Holder as per the original application and involve students heavily in 2005 work. Agreed on program vision and have a clear path forward. The funding contract is to be processed urgently as it is needed to allow projects, including the UNITEC Architecture Students, to start moving in July. ER and team
30/06/04 Shirley Pyke off for the month funding contract delayed. Strategic Expertise advanced funds to allow UNITEC Architecture Student semester program to start with the exploratory design hui on 23-25 July. ER

26/07/04 Website information updated with active project details

PG

24/08/04 Our co-funding partner Strategic Expertise continuing to advance funds to allow UNITEC to proceed but no longer prepared to expose itself to this ongoing risk. PG
24/08/04 Unable to locate NZTE support person suggested to help collate detail for contract, so we resubmitted our own well established web based program management and budget documentation as the funding is now urgent. Confusion arose between the wholistic and organic nature of the Kaitiakianga Program and NZTE desire to fund just a single enterprise project. ER
Nov 04 Local team and community frustrated by delays and hassles in processing the TZTE funding contract so divert their efforts back onto other priorities. The Kura with it's building programme in full swing decides it does not have the energy to be involved with administration of the funding contract but still supports all learning activities where it and the children can be involved. CE
Dec 04 As the now completed UNITEC study and immediate active projects involve mainly the village, the NZTE funding contract now to to be processed via the Minginui Village Council led by Andy Blick. This again raised reasonable community and Runanga concerns as to whether this is the best long term solution. This took the program to the undercurrents where we let things float to let the issues surface and ideas germinate to find a new growth path forward. AB
10/12/05 Old compound OSH closure re possible toxin and asbestos hazard delays planned progress on some projects including involving children in construction activities over the summer holiday. AB
28/01/05 Meeting at Minginui Shirley Pyke, Jennifer Pearson (new Local NZTE coordinator) Andy Blick, Pene Olsen, Raewyn Araroa, James Carlson ( part time) and Peter Goldsbury to finalise contract arrangements with Minginui Council, who will invoice for funds to reimburse agreed UNITEC expenses. Jennifer to work with community to specify a project path for a "Te Whaiti Project" that meets the NZTE enterprise agenda (a subset of the Kaitiakitanga Program) All
Feb 05 The Kaitiakitanga Program grows independently accross the community at its own pace, with more information about other activities that are being done locally and with other partners being added to the website (Web costs agreed to be covered as koha by Strategic Expertise Ltd) . Peter Goldsbury, subject to community wishes, will continue to work externally to help find opportunities, network connections, support, koha and funding to grow more innovative Kaitiakitanga activities proposed by any group in the community, and help the community share its journey and values, unconstrained by NZTE / Government criteria and timescales.
